The Warrior is a character role in any story, fictional or non-fictional. This character-type is any person male or female who is engaged or experienced in warfare or wages war. The warrior is often a singular combatant who is not enlisted with any military force; synonymous with any individual who is purely a mercenary. This character-type is often between the ages of 20 to 50 depending on the parameters of the story described. In fictional stories, especially those involving magic, warriors are often much older, due to spells they may employ or have been exposed to that may impact their longevity as active fighters. Supernatural characters who are described as warriors (vampires, elves, aliens, etc.) may also exceed the age of 50 due to their prolonged lifespans. The warrior class includes other character roles including Amazons, valkyries, warlords and knights. This character role is vastly different than the typical modern day soldier as the warrior is mostly an archaic term associated with individuals who fought with melee weapons of varying types and were more frequently embroiled in war unlike modern soldiers who are granted leaves between tours of service. The warrior is also more often than not, a lifetime combatant unlike modern soldiers who can usually opt to retire from service at any time.
